Health Benefits of CBD

27 January 2022 By Ariel Gregory

In recent years, the use of CBD in many different industries has seen a huge increase, CBD-infused products are dominating the health and wellness industry. This is owed to the fact that CBD has been shown to be beneficial to your mental and physical health,  and the hemp plant has been used to heal people around the world for centuries.

It is within the last decade that scientific research into the benefits of CBD has increased, showing promising outcomes. Moreover, mental health disorders are on the rise and CBD could potentially treat them!

CBD is now legal in many countries across the world including the United States, due to the 2018 Farm Bill.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid that is similar in structure to the endocannabinoids found in the human body. It is derived from the hemp plant, which contains little to no THC, the psychoactive compound in marijuana that gives you a “high”.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is non-psychoactive and safe for human consumption. Cannabidiol oil is extracted from different parts of the hemp plant!

CBD for Mental Health

Research into the benefits of Cannabidiol oil has shown that it may help improve the symptoms of many mental health disorders like anxiety, depression, PTSD, and bipolar disorder.

CBD and Anxiety

Surveys have revealed that about 1 in 5 people in the United States suffer from an anxiety disorder! Moreover, only about a third of these get treatment for it!

These statistics are beyond alarming. In a fast-paced, digitally-centered world like ours where work pressure and competition are exponentially increasing, it’s no surprise that a huge proportion of the population suffers from anxiety disorders.

Studies reveal that CBD oil may help improve the symptoms of many anxiety disorders including social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and performance anxiety.

Cannabidiol may help eliminate anxiety by exerting its effects on two aspects of the human body: the endocannabinoid system and serotonin receptors.

The endocannabinoid system is an inbuilt system present in humans that regulates many aspects of human functioning including mood, appetite, and inflammation. It contains two receptors, CB1 and CB2 receptors. CBD may influence these receptors and improves mood.

Studies reveal that CBD also influences serotonin receptors in the brain. It may make these receptors more sensitive to serotonin, a neurochemical that regulates mood, the sleep-wake cycle, and appetite. Also, CBD may help reduce palpitations in patients suffering from anxiety.

Pharmaceutical drugs used for anxiety have many side effects like sexual dysfunction, loss of short-term memory, and many others. Drugs like SSRIs take weeks to show their effects! On the other hand, CBD is natural and safe to use. Moreover, it shows rapid effects on the body!

CBD and Insomnia

Many mental health disorders can ruin your sleep-wake cycle, resulting in inadequate, restless sleep. Cannabidiol oil may improve your sleep by improving the duration and quality of your sleep. Moreover, it may reduce the time it takes for you to fall asleep. How often do you toss and turn in bed because you’re anxious and sleepy but unable to sleep? That’s where CBD comes into play!

Getting adequate, restful sleep is important for your physical and mental health! Sleep helps the body heal, improves brain function and memory, and is vital for your organs to work properly.

Traditional prescription sleeping pills can give you a “hangover” effect during the day. They cause daytime drowsiness. On the other hand, CBD doesn’t cause a hangover effect during the day. Instead, it makes you feel relaxed!

Studies show that CBD could significantly help you sleep better, especially by targeting the underlying cause.

Adding CBD can be beneficial to your daily health and wellness routine
CBD and PTSD

PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) affects about 1 in 11 people at least once in their lifetime! It’s common for people to associate PTSD with veterans and other military personnel. However, anyone who has experienced trauma (even if it’s second-hand trauma, that is, not experiencing the trauma but hearing about it from someone), can have PTSD.

PTSD is a chronic mental health disorder characterized by nightmares, recurrent thoughts of the traumatic event, insomnia, and palpitations. Cannabidiol may improve many of the symptoms of PTSD by influencing the endocannabinoid system of the body. The intake of cannabidiol oil could reduce the occurrence of nightmares. Moreover, it could reduce the retention of traumatic memories, thereby reducing recurrent thoughts of the event.

CBD and Depression

Depression is a very common mental health illness that can often lead to suicide. Symptoms of depression include suicidal thoughts and ideations, feelings of sadness and hopelessness, irritability, mood swings, and low self-esteem.

Cannabidiol oil may help in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression by influencing serotonin receptors in the brain. Serotonin regulates mood and appetite; thus, CBD may help improve depressive symptoms. SSRIs are the first-line therapeutic drugs used to treat clinical depression. However, they usually take weeks to show their effects. Moreover, SSRIs are known to have a wide range of side effects like sexual dysfunction, mood swings, irritability, nausea, and weight gain. On the other hand, cannabidiol shows instant results without any major side effects.

CBD and Alcohol Use Disorder

Studies have shown that taking CBD for Alcohol Use Disorder may prove fruitful. CBD could reduce alcoholism by exerting the following effects:

  • Decreasing the urge to drink alcohol
  • Decreasing alcohol withdrawal symptoms
  • Altering the circumstances that may enhance alcohol abuse. For example, CBD could help reduce anxiety and depression which can often lead to substance abuse.

Not only this, but CBD products like CBD oil may also help prevent damage to the brain in both the short and long runs as a result of chronic alcohol abuse!

Thus, CBD products could be used to treat alcohol use disorder.

CBD for Eczema, Rosacea and Psoriasis

Eczema occurs as dry patches of skin that itch a lot. Eczema can cause a lot of discomfort and pain to individuals suffering from it. There is no current cure for eczema and it’s a recurring skin disease that could be caused by multiple factors.

Psoriasis is also a similar skin condition that appears as dry, itchy, and flaky skin.

CBD oil may help reduce the symptoms of eczema and psoriasis owing to its anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, and anti-itch properties.

CBD for Neurodegenerative Disorders

The progression of many neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease and Parkinson’s disease could be slowed down with the use of CBD. It has shown to have neuroprotective properties. These neuroprotective properties can be attributed to CBD’s role as an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant compound.

CBD for Pain

CBD balances pain and the perception of pain by stimulating the reabsorption of neurotransmitter, adenosine, boosting adenosine levels in the brain and inhibiting pain sensations. CBD can also block pain signals from reaching processing centers in the brain.

CBD vs. THC – What’ the Difference?

6 December 2021 By Ariel Gregory

What is the relationship between CBD and marijuana?

As the popularity of CBD increases worldwide, it’s hard not to see or hear anything about this natural compound, but what is CBD, and how is it different from marijuana? In the following article, we’ll take a closer look at what CBD is and how CBD is quite different from marijuana.

If you have been curious about learning more about cannabinoids such as CBD, then you have come to the right place! We’ll look at what this natural compound is and why so many people choose to incorporate CBD into their daily health and wellness routines.

What Is Cannabidiol (CBD)?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over 100 different cannabinoids, and along with the other main cannabinoid, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), is considered a primary or dominant cannabinoid. Both CBD and THC can be found in different levels in hemp and marijuana.

Unlike THC, CBD has no psychoactive properties. What does this mean? Simply put, CBD isn’t going to get you ‘high’ or offer any of the ‘euphoric’ properties of THC.

Inside all of us is something known as the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). It’s believed that the ECS is responsible for maintaining balance and harmony for many bodily functions, including appetite, reproduction, mood, and immune systems. The ECS comprises a series of receptors, the CB1 and CB2, which are spread throughout the body and linked together.

Studies from around the world, along with a lot of anecdotal evidence, have shown that CBD has the ability to potentially offer many therapeutic benefits. However, more research and clinical trials are needed before we can make any definitive claims about the medicinal properties of CBD.

Almost all CBD oil is sourced from industrial hemp plants because they are naturally high in CBD and low in THC, making them an ideal source for CBD.

What Is The Difference Between Hemp and Marijuana?
- - CBD Modern

Hemp and marijuana are two vastly different yet remarkably similar plants that have existed for tens of thousands of years and are both collectively known as cannabis plants.

Ancient civilizations, including the Chinese, have been using hemp and marijuana for various purposes, including paper, fiber, food, and medicine for tens of thousands of years.

Recently, in 2018 the US Farm Bill made a clear distinction between hemp and marijuana. They classified any cannabis plant with a THC content higher than 0.3% as marijuana and lower than 0.3% THC as hemp. Thus, with the correct state license, agricultural producers can now grow hemp legally at a federal level. At the same time, the federal government also made it legal to produce goods from hemp, including CBD products.

How Is CBD Different from THC?

THC is the dominant cannabinoid found in the marijuana plant and is widely used for both medicinal and recreational purposes because of its euphoric effects. However, the negative side-effects associated with using high THC content products such as anxiety, stress, nausea, and paranoia often leave users feeling worse than if they didn’t use it.

On the other hand, CBD has no psychotropic or euphoric properties, which means that it isn’t going to get you high in any way. Instead, most people report that using CBD on a regular basis simply leaves them feeling relaxed or stress-free.

There are various studies that have looked at CBD for its anti-anxiety properties, anti-inflammatory properties, and overall general health and wellness. The versatility of CBD means that there are a variety of different ways that you can easily and quickly incorporate CBD into your health and wellness routines.

CBD is available in various delivery methods, including CBD oils, CBD tinctures, CBD edibles, CBD lotions and balms, and even CBD vape liquids. All of which interact with the Endocannabinoid System.

CBD vs. THC – What’s the Difference?

As you can see from the information above, there is a huge difference between CBD and THC, and we’re learning more and more about these two primary cannabinoids every day. Even though research worldwide continues rapidly, scientists are only just beginning to scratch the surface to discover the full natural properties of these two cannabinoids. If you have been searching for premium CBD oil online or would like to learn more about CBD, please don’t hesitate to reach out and contact us at CBD Modern directly. The Complete CBD Overview

27 September 2021 By The CBD Modern

Where does CBD come from, what is CBD,
what can CBD do, and how is it made?

It’s hard not to look online and not see something about how great CBD oil is or how many people are using CBD. Even major retailers such as Walgreens and CVS can see that there is something in CBD oils that’s worth investing in. However, what is CBD oil?

In the following article, we’re going to do a deep dive into CBD. We’ll look at where CBD comes from, What CBD is, how CBD is made and where it comes from, and what some of the studies are saying about CBD products.

What Is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over 100 different cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD has no psychoactive properties and won’t get you high in any way or form. However, there have been hundreds of studies into the potential therapeutic benefits of CBD.

However, more clinical trials are required before making any specific medicinal claims about the natural compound. Still, anecdotal evidence from users worldwide suggests that CBD is an important compound that helps to improve overall health and wellness.

Inside all of us is something known as the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). Scientists believe that the ECS regulates different bodily functions, including appetite, mood, reproduction, and immune responses. The ECS is made up of a series of receptors, the CB1 and CB2, which are all linked together.

How Is CBD Made and Where Does CBD Come From?

Almost all CBD products, including CBD oil, use CBD that has been sourced from industrial hemp plants. This is because hemp plants are extremely high in CBD and low in THC. Hemp plants are grown in states all across the United States since the release of the 2018 US Farm Bill.

The 2018 US Farm Bill made it legal at a federal level to grow hemp and also produce goods, including CBD, from the hemp plant. Hemp plants are classified as cannabis plants with less than 0.3% THC. If the plant contains over 0.3% THC, they are classified as marijuana.

Hemp plants are grown until maturity, when they begin to flower before being harvested. The hemp flower is processed, and all CBD is removed. The flower or bud of the hemp plant, like the marijuana plant, is rich in cannabinoids. There are a variety of different extractions and processing methods that are used to extract valuable cannabinoids from the hemp plant.

What Can CBD Do – What Do the Studies Say?

There have been various studies into the effects and potential benefits of CBD. Some of the studies include:

  • CBD for Anxiety and Stress – There have been several studies that have shown that CBD could be a powerful and natural way to reduce stress which leads to anxiety. Currently, over 40 million Americans have been affected by stress at one point or another in their life. So it makes sense that if you reduce stress, the number one cause of anxiety, you can help combat this debilitating mental health condition.
  • CBD for Inflammation – CBD has shown to be a powerful natural anti-inflammatory. When you injure yourself, the body sends inflammatory bodies to the area while you heal, causing pain and inflammation. The sooner you reduce inflammation, the sooner you can recover from your injury.
  • CBD for Skin Conditions – Studies worldwide are currently looking at the possibility of CBD being beneficial for a variety of skin conditions, including psoriasis, eczema, and acne, because of its natural anti-inflammatory properties.

The results of several studies into CBD look very promising indeed. However, more clinical trials are required before making any specific medicinal claims about the natural compound.

The Complete CBD Overview – Conclusion

As you can see, we have already uncovered a lot about what CBD is, where CBD comes from, how CBD products are made, and some of the many things that CBD can do. Every day we uncover a little bit more about this exciting natural compound, and the future of CBD is looking very bright indeed.
